A Hilly comment

A friend of a very good friend of mine got this comment about Iceland: you mean the country that wants to rip off their British savers...
and to add insult to injury he said among other things: And, it WAS the people of Iceland that voted NOT to pay back the money .....
I really do not care if he does not like Icelanders -  lets face it, many Icelanders do not have that many reasons to like the Brits (later ), anyway at least not the way I like some of them.
BUT lets get a couple of things straight!!!
The Icelandic nation is suffering badly from the alleged dishonesty of 20-30 persons. See here. So because of them every single person in Iceland is to stand correct and pay ten thousand pounds.
Now lets say a corrupt private banker in the UK did something like this. Not unheard of and lets say Mr. Brown agreed to guarantee such a debt to people around the globe. He would suggest that every citizen of the UK schould, one way or another, come up with ten thousand pounds.
I could think of a lot of things said. None of them includes YES!
They were running prvate banks. They were dishonest. Why should the people of Iceland pay their dubious actions?

But the government has said they would pay these savings up to the international legal limits. So we have some hard times ahead. And we did not vote NOT to pay. We voted not to agree to the terms set.
700 billion Icelandic kronas are three and a half billion pounds divided on 320 thousand Icelanders. That is the size of Kingston upon Hull. How big is that?

I will later do more on the volcano, economics in Iceland and whatever I fancy. Hope you´ll like it!
