A thought about Paul

From time to time I get really bored going through my collection of Paul McCartney´s records. But that is just when I grab the wrong albums.
When I grab the right ones I am in musical heaven.
Which ones?
To start with there is Ram. This album, his second I believe after the big B, has the happy mood of Abbey road, Medleys, rythm changes and recording techniques and innovations that tell me who was the experimental Beatle. Its not just Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey. Listen to My Dog with your headphones on or Dear boy. Its a combination of wonderful ballads like Back seat of my car  and bluesy rythmic songs like Smiles away, Eat at home and statements like Too many people.
Ram is underrated and most  entertaining. A great album.
Band on the run is another terrific album. Its truly great and the thing about it and RAM is that he and the musicians took a long time recording, editing and working on the sound. The songs are quite complicated. Listen to Band on the run and the rythm changes. Or the in and outs of other songs dropping in on Picassos last words. Bluebird is one of Pauls absolute masterpieces and again there is this mood about the album that suggests people had fun being together and making music.
Again a complex recording and I am not sure everyone appreciates the work behind it.
Another underrated album is Give my regards to Broadstreet. Sure, the attached movie didn‘t deserve Oscars for acting but he gets together a lot of great musicians to make wonderful music. There is Gilmour and Paice and Rngo and on the list goes. And listen to his new version of Long and winding road. The voices after the solo. Man I still  get goosebumps and I know it by heart.
There is Tug of war, Flowers in the dirt, Off the ground, Flaming pie and Unplugged. All great albums. Then there is Chaos and creation.
Lets see. He started recording with The Beatles around 1960. Seriously I mean. His first solo album appeared in 1970. 35 years later and 45 years after recording his first songs with the Beatles he issues Chaos and creation! And its champion. Most of his contemporaries were issuing remakes and outtakes and he puts out a CD that as such would uphold many a name even if it was the only one.
And lets remember that he plays almost every instrument on Chaos, on McCartney, several on Band on the run and Ram and so on.
Then he has the nose for pseudonyms. Look up Percy Thrillington and The fireman and Twin freaks.
Quite a cat.
Classic lad McCartney, even if he supports Liverpool (and Everton).
